About ITA Services & Courses

International Teaching Assistant Services (ITA) are under the direction of the University of Connecticut American English Language Institute (UCAELI), in the Office of Global Affairs.

Our mission is to support graduate teaching assistants in their various roles across campus to ensure success in the classroom and for their students. Additionally, we screen prospective TA’s to ensure the minimum standards of spoken language proficiency are met before allowing the TA to perform instructional contact duties at the university.

English courses are designed to help ITA’s meet the English proficiency requirement of the University of Connecticut as well as to prepare them for their role as classroom or lab instructors. The course focuses on the improvement of presentation skills, pronunciation, teaching technique, and classroom management as appropriate.

The University of Connecticut participates in the New England International Teaching Assistant Network (NEITAN), established in October of 1999 by the following member institutions:

  • Boston University
