Conversation partners will join each class to provide opportunities for practice, feedback, and questions. Registration for the workshop series is highly recommended in order to guarantee a seat.

These workshops will help participants develop the speaking skills needed to convey their ideas clearly when presenting in front of an audience. Students will practice presenting information relevant to their field of study and be actively involved in self-assessment and peer assessment. Content will be adapted to suit the group’s needs.

Students who have not scored high enough to be screened by the Microteaching Test or received a conditional pass from a previous test must attend at least 8 workshops. Who can register? UConn undergraduates, graduates, J1 scholars, J2, and F2 visa holders

Focus on Pronunciation

Dates: March 7 – April 19 (6 weeks)

Days: Thursdays and Fridays

Time: 4:30pm – 6:00pm

Course Fee: $250

Course Description:

In this course, participants will develop skills and strategies to work on their pronunciation both in and out of class. The goal is not to eliminate a foreign accent, but instead to help participants develop a command of spoken English that enables them to convey and understand intended meanings and attitudes. Individual sounds, sound combinations, stress, vowel reduction, linking, rhythm, intonation, focus, pauses, and conversational speech will be addressed. Content can be adapted to suit the groups’ needs.
